Transcript of Commissioner Olsen’s Video Message to Community

County Commissioner Pete Olsen

Video originally posted to County’s Facebook page on March 25:

Hello, my name is Pete Olsen and I’m a Churchill County Commissioner.

I want to thank everyone for everything that they’ve done so far in this crisis of the COVID-19 virus. We are all in this together and I want you to continue the fight, continue to pay attention to the guidance that you are being given.

So far, we’ve been fortunate. We’ve had 20 tests in our community and they’ve all come back negative. But we know it’s only a matter of time and we will have positives in our community so it is incumbent upon us to stay vigilant, always, to protect the people of our community.

Thanking businesses

I want to thank both the essential and non-essential businesses for everything that they’ve done and I want to encourage the public to support them in any way they can as we go through this crisis. It’s a very difficult thing on our economy right now and we need to support those businesses as best we are able.

Ten-person congregant rule

Now, we also have the 10-person congregation rule. We want to make sure that everyone understand that we do not want people congregating. Maintain self-isolation. These things are all really important as it helps slow down the spread of the virus and gives time for our community healthcare personnel help deal with people as they become ill. And so, it is very important for you to continue to maintain vigilance on these things.

Request for PPE donations

Now, here is a need we have in the community: we need personal protection equipment. And so a fairly simple thing like this N-95 mask that maybe some of you have on the shelf out in your garage, maybe you have them in your businesses, maybe you know someone that has some of them. These are very important to keep our health workers safe. And I really encourage you, if you have these, and are willing to donate them, please bring them down to the Churchill County Social Services offices or if you call (775)427-0035, they will come and pick it up at your place of businesses or residence.

If you have any of the shields or gowns or any of those sorts of things as well that you can spare, these are the things that the people on the front lines in our Banner Churchill Hospital are going to need as they combat this crisis.

Again I know that our community is one, that people rise to the occasion and I’m asking you to do that today.

Thank you.
