[ARCHIVED] K-9 Retires From The Sheriff’s Office

Jax, retired K-9.

After nine years of outstanding and faithful service, good boy Jax, the K-9 at the Sheriff’s Office, retired last week to the home of his handler, Sgt. Matt Timmons.

Sheriff Richard Hickox honored Jax for his work with the department over the course of his career and wished him well in retirement.

State Assemblywoman Robin Titus presented Jax and Sgt. Timmons with a Nevada state flag that had flown over the Capitol building and read a proclamation to recognize Jax’s service.

The K-9 program at the Sheriff’s Office was initiated by Deputy Chris Thorn who came to Sheriff’s Office leadership asking to establish a local law enforcement K-9 program and Jax was its first dog.

With Jax now chasing squirrels and playing with the Timmons family children, another dog came to the department by way of an anonymous donation from a family that gifted their dog to the K-9 program. Introducing Bear, the Belgian Malinois, the department’s newest K-9 who, along with his handler Deputy Hannah Zamora, will fill the pawprints left by Jax and Sgt. Timmons.

Add a monetary donation from a retired California law enforcement officer for a dog vest for Bear and he is well on his way to being trained and equipped for K-9 law enforcement duties.
